For the past 25 years, Freire Schools Network Founder Kelly C. Davenport, Ed.D. has led and grown the Freire Schools network with love, bold vision, gutsy action, and an unwavering belief that our kids can do and be anything they dream of. The Freire Foundation has established the Kelly C. Davenport Build the Future Fund in her honor to ensure that the critical work she has dedicated her life to continues to flourish for generations to come.
This unrestricted fund is designed to support the general operations of the Freire Schools campuses and the innovative programs that support student success. Funds will be disbursed at the recommendation of the Freire Schools CEO and with the approval of the Boards of Directors of the Freire Foundation and the receiving school(s).
Examples of initiatives Kelly has spearheaded and the fund may continue to support include:
- High-Quality Teaching & Learning: High-quality education isn’t just about strong curriculum; it’s about empowering students to think for themselves, challenge ideas, and use their voices with confidence. Through rigorous coursework, professional development for our educators, and tailored interventions, we ensure every student is driving their learning and has the tools to succeed and build the future.
- The Power of Generative Conflict: At FreireSchools, we embrace tough conversations, because conflict, when done right, leads to progress. Whether in dialogue circles around complex issues, in peer mediation, or daily interactions, we foster an environment where ideas can be challenged and new perspectives explored.
- Beyond the Classroom, Into the World: Our Freire Forward initiative opens the world to our students through career-building experienceships, arts partnerships, and international travel. When our students have real-world opportunities, they can see what’s possible and chase it with confidence.
- Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders: We are committed to developing future leaders – supporting teachers and school leaders to be the best in the business and students and alumni to go out and change their communities, and, we hope, come back to lead Freire Schools into the future.
