Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Freire Schools, our students thrive in a dynamic environment where creativity, critical thinking, and academics come together, empowering them to become well-rounded individuals ready for success in all aspects of life.
World Cafe Live Partnership: Unleashing Creativity
Freire Schools partners with WCL to implement an artist residency program at our Philadelphia campuses to bring musicians into the classroom to teach students how to write and perform original songs and provide a joyful and meaningful break from regular instruction. Students also get to experience live performances during interactive Bridge Sessions at World Cafe Live headquarters.
STEAM Opportunities: Unlocking Potential
From the Makerspaces at our TECH campus to competitive robotics teams and STEAM-focused clubs across our network, students have so many opportunities to explore their passions for science, technology, and the arts. Whether they’re designing experiments in the lab, programming robots, or creating digital art, STEAM opportunities inspire them to push boundaries, solve real-world problems, and make a difference at Freire and beyond.
Professional Prep: Paving the Path to Success
Our college prep model has evolved to include professional prep programming. Through dual enrollment courses, job exposure field trips, paid internships in our new Experienceship Program, and career fairs, our students cultivate work readiness skills while forming valuable connections with businesses and community leaders that guide and inform them as they plan for their post-Freire lives. Students also participate in business pitch competitions through our partnership with Philadelphia Financial Scholars and EntreX at the University of Delaware. It’s all about getting hands-on experience and finding out what you’re passionate about.
International Travel: Using the World as a Classroom
One of the ways we prepare students for college and beyond is by encouraging them to experience the world outside our immediate community. In spring 2024, students from our three high schools participated in an international excursion to Costa Rica during spring break where they were able to adventure, practice their Spanish, and make memories. We are already planning our Spring Break 2025 trip to England and France to continue to encourage our students to see the world as a classroom.
