Just a few blocks away from our flagship high school campus, Freire Schools’ youngest Dragons are preparing for college and changing what it means to be in middle school.

Our students arrive at Freire Middle School at a range of achievement levels. Here, they don’t just catch up – they make leaps in personal and academic growth, setting them up for even greater success in high school. In 2022, following a longitudinal study on student outcomes commissioned by the Philadelphia School Partnership, Freire Middle School has been identified as one of 36 Philadelphia public and public charter (K-8) schools “Beating the Odds” in academic growth. Freire Middle School also received Great Philly Schools’ 2020 High Growth Rating for demonstrating “impressive academic growth” over a three-year period in math and reading. In 2018-19 (the last year for which there are test results due to COVID-19), Freire Middle School ranked #4 out of all public Philadelphia middle schools on the School District of Philadelphia’s annual School Progress Report. That year, Freire Middle School received a Progress score of 100% for the third consecutive year.

Students graduating from Freire Middle School are guaranteed a seat at Freire High School, where they continue their journey towards college within the tight-knit Freire Schools community. With the help of their Academic Advisors, other students go on to attend special-admission high school programs across the city. Wherever our Dragons roam, they’ll always have a home at Freire Middle School!
