Teaching Residency in partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education
Learn what it means to be a teacher by working at a Freire Schools campus while completing a teacher preparation program at Relay Graduate School of Education. This opportunity is open to all college graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, but Freire Schools is particularly interested in connecting Freire Schools alum with this pathway to teaching. Learn more about the Teaching Residency Program here!
Program highlights include:
- In Year 1, Teaching Residents complete a one-year apprenticeship at Freire Schools, gradually assuming responsibility for a classroom, and complete coursework at Relay Graduate School of Education.
- In Year 2, Teaching Residents become full-time teachers and complete Relay’s Teaching Exceptional Leaders (TEL) program to earn their teaching certificate and master’s degree.
- Teaching Residents have a school-based mentor to model great instruction and provide coaching and support.
- Freire Schools seeks Teaching Residents in high-needs subjects, with a special emphasis on STEM.
Campus Ambassador
Recent Freire graduates know better than anyone what it means to be a Freire student, what our classrooms need, and what qualities define successful Freire teachers. Through our new Campus Ambassadors program, Freire alums studying at area colleges elevate Freire’s presence on their campus through networking, marketing, and small presentations, and work to identify student leaders who would be competitive candidates for entry-level instructional positions in the Freire Schools network.
Campus Ambassadors are compensated, gain valuable professional skills, and can play an important role in the fight for educational equity.
Alumni Relations Coordinator
Freire Alumni Relations Coordinators work to ensure that their fellow Dragons stay connected to Freire long after graduation. The Alumni Relations Coordinator supports the Recruitment Team’s alumni employment initiatives through database management, reporting, and alumni communication.
